Art
We are making papier maché fish with Ms McGuirk at the moment. It involves a lot of tearing paper and glueing it to a balloon. It is very messy but great fun!
Our Waltons' Competition musicians.
Christmas
In December we learned about the history of toys. Some of us brought in toys that had belonged to our parents or grandparents. We also made clay pots and handmade wrapping paper to wrap them with. We had a little party on the day of the holidays and wrapped up our presents to take them home to our families. Santa called in also and we sang a Christmas song for him.
November Prayers
During November we prayed every day for those who have passed away. We made crosses and hearts with the names of those we have loved and displayed them so we could remember them in our daily prayers.
Trip to the Panto
On January 17th we visited the pantomime in the Gaiety Theatre. We saw “Aladdin” and it was a fantastic show and a really enjoyable day out. During the performance a pupil and teacher from Rathvilly N.S. were invited on stage to perform. As the photos show, they seemed to really enjoy the experience!
A visit by the author David Donohue.
On December 5th, an author named David Donohue visited our school. We in 3rd Class had done a lot of preparation for his visit. We had all read his book “Walter Speazlebud” which is about a boy who has the gift of spelling backwards. It was a very funny book but it was a bit sad at times because Walter was bullied in school. Things worked out well for him in the end though. We drew some pictures to show the author and he was really impressed with our artwork and our knowledge of his book.
Thanks to Mrs Cullen for organising the visit.
Swimming
For eight weeks from September to November, some of us travelled to Graiguecullen Swimming Pool for swimming lessons. We all made progress and were awarded certificates a few weeks later.
Well done everyone!
3rd Class "Wanted" Posters
As part of our work on descriptive writing we made “Wanted” posters. We got to use our imagination and had to use as many different adjectives and nouns as we could. We had great fun creating our “crazy criminals”.
