This year some pupils from Sixth class took part in a debating competition. After many trials, the team was selected. The team was made up of Keira Reilly, Sarah Curran, Emily Fleming, Julia Sibbald, Ellen Frazer and Seán Corcoran. Our first debate was against Tullow Boys School. The motion for the debate was “Television is the greatest educational asset in the home.” We were opposing the motion and Tullow Boys were proposing the motion. We travelled over to Tullow Boys School on the 21st of October and the debate started at 10.30am. We tried our best and on the day we came out on top. Afterwards, Mrs Gavin treated us to some ice cream. Then we went back to school and everyone congratulated us on our win. It was such an enjoyable day.
For the next round of the debate, we took on Ballon National School at home. The motion for this debate was “Primary School Children Should Be Required to Do Chores around the House.” The debate started at 11.30am on the 20th of December. It was a very close debate but Ballon won on the day. Even though we were a little bit disappointed, we were happy with how we did. Afterwards we sang a few songs to win the remaining crisps and drinks. It was such a great experience for us.
