On 8/11/17 we, 6th class, were told about the Junior Entrepreneur programme by our teacher, everyone was really excited about it. Everyone started coming up with really good ideas. For example, some of the ideas were a personalised calendars, personalised occasional cards, an animal day care and lots more.
We spent some time researching entrepreneurs and Annette Lobaiza-Heydon spoke to us about her business. That was really interesting and we learned a lot about setting up and running a business.

We all had to present individual ideas to the class and the class selected their top 5.

Here are Ella and Ciara with their individual ideas:

  • Ella’s was for hot chocolate

  • Ciara’s was Christmas baubles.

We had so many excellent ideas but could only choose 5 to go through to the "Dragon’s Den".
The 5 ideas were :

  • Zip up Hoodies

  • Scrabble Frames

  • Stocking Surprises

  • Pom-Poms and

  • Festive Logs.

We got into groups and started working on a presentation for the dragons who would decide our final ideas. We made presentation boards, brochures, samples and wrote speeches. We researched materials and costings. Below are some photos of the groups making their presentations and also of our dragons.

The idea the dragons decided on was Scrabble Frames!
We set to working researching, buying materials and making brochures and order forms. We promoted the business in school and we sold at the Rathvilly Christmas Fair! We also branched out into customised stockings, decorations and pom-poms.
In the end, we turned over around €1400 and made a profit of €942 in our 2 week selling period. They were so popular.
We would like to thanks the dragons for heling us with our ideas and also all our customers! We really enjoyed the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and look forward to spending our profits!
