Carlow Hospice Sunflower Competition
Before the Summer holidays, some of the school children bought a packet of sunflower seeds and planted them. It was a challenge to keep them watered during our hot summer but we had some amazing results. The children were asked to measure their sunflowers in September and bring in a photo of their plant. The measurements and photos were sent to the judges of the sunflower growing competition. We had entries from John Patrick Kehoe (Senior Infants) Leona and Seán Kelly( First and Fourth Class) Molly McGannon ( Second Class) and Zoe Hoenselaer (Third Class) All of these children were presented with a bag of bulbs at our first assembly in October. I have no doubt that these daffodil bulbs have been planted in their gardens and are quietly awaiting the arrival of spring!
Well, on the 15 October, Mr O Connor received a letter informing us that Seán and Leona Kelly had scooped 1st prize with a sunflower measuring 330cms!!! In 3rd place came Zoe Hoenselaer with her sunflower measuring 249cms. Brilliant news!!
Photos here show us what wonderful gardeners we have in our school!
